He was known in the neighborhood as the young man who wore only label shoes with sharp-cut designer suits and, with his neatly done hair, and posh car, looked more like a Hollywood celebrity than a fresh graduate from a local university. An alumnus of the University of Nairobi, Reuben, 24, knew exactly what he wanted when he graduated with a degree in finance in 2009 – a bountifully furnished house in a high-end suburb, a posh car, a glamorous girlfriend, and nothing else but designer clothes. He had given himself a six-month deadline after graduation to achieve his goals. This would compensate for the life of squalor he had lived for three years on campus, fighting anti-riot...
